MEDIA RELEASE - Labor Endorses Federal Candidate for Forde

21 May 2015

The Australian Labor Party has today endorsed local radiographer Des Hardman as the Labor candidate for Forde in the forthcoming federal election.

Mr Hardman is among the first group of candidates to join Bill Shorten’s federal ALP team, ready to take the fight up to Tony Abbott in the key battleground of south east Queensland.

Together with his wife Marta and three children, forty-two-year-old Hardman lives in Meadowbrook, the Logan suburb his family has called home for the past ten years.

Working at the coalface of the public health system, at Logan Hospital, Mr Hardman sees firsthand the dire effects the Abbott government’s cruel cuts to health funding will have on Queenslanders.

“Hospitals in areas such as Logan are fast seeing demand outstrip capacity, and the health funding cuts made by Tony Abbott are only going to make it harder for health workers to adequately care for the needs local families,” said Mr Hardman.

“I’m humbled by the opportunity to stand for Labor in Forde at the next federal election to ensure the concerns of our region are heard loud and clear at a federal level.”

ALP Queensland State Secretary Evan Moorhead said Des Hardman will not only be an effective representative for the electorate of Forde but a strong voice for health services across the region.

“Des will be a great addition to Labor’s team: his firsthand knowledge of local health services makes him a great local advocate for improved frontline services.”
